| NEWS: Euro-Peristat 2016 Paris meeting |
|
|

The Euro-Peristat network had a meeting on “Better Statistics for Better Health for Mothers and Newborns in Europe” in Paris on April 4th and 5th, 2016.
National stakeholders from 28 participating countries, European professional, advocacy and user associations met to discuss making routine data more useful for clinical care and health policy. We also welcomed BRIDGE Health representatives to discuss models for a sustainable European health information system.

There are large differences in the multiple birth rate across Europe and these have an impact on preterm birth and neonatal mortality rates.

Wide variations across countries in rates of severe perineal tears and episiotomy suggest that rates of tears may not be used as an indicator of obstetrical quality of care. The impact of very low episiotomy rates in some countries still requires further assessment.

BRIDGE Health aims to prepare the transition towards a sustainable and integrated EU health information system for both public health and research purposes. The project includes 31 partners in 16 countries; read more here.
Euro-Peristat participates in the Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal, and Child Health work package.
At the last Expert Group on Health Information, the idea of creating an ERIC for Health Information was discussed.
